Holding of the 52nd Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Neurology
It is our great honor to be able to hold the 52nd Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Neurology (JSN2011) at the Nagoya Congress Center over the three days from 18th-20th of May, 2011.
Following suit from the 50th & 51st meetings commemorating the 50th year anniversary of the foundation of the JSN, the main theme of the 52nd meeting is “From Pathogenesis to Therapy – Perspective for the Next 50 years.” I feel that the prospects for the pathogenesis of numerous neurological disorders have been elucidated and the treatment is coming into light. I hope all of our members come together to think how to conceptualize the vision for the next 50 years. As this is an academic meeting, my hope is that this meeting will be a meeting that is “accessible for the doctors on the frontlines to attend and want to attend,” and “takes the level of academic and research to the next higher level.” We are assembling opinions and thoughts from everyone, including the steering committee of this annual meeting, and currently are at the stage of preparing the program that is abounds with originality.
In the recent years, there has been a surge in the number of patients with diseases as strokes, dementia, and neurodegenerative diseases that has accompanied the aging society. Clarifying the casual factors and pathogenesis of such socially important illnesses, and creating superior prevention, therapy, and nursing care strategies for them are major obligations that have been placed on neurologists. In light of this background, it is my goal to gather the world’s leading researchers in various fields and researchers in fields with increasing potential of clinical applications at this academic meeting and provide them with a venue for wide-ranging discussions. Moreover, to promote internationalism, we plan to hold joint symposiums for the West and Asia, and invite young researchers from overseas. Furthermore, I hope to enrich neurology training and day-to-day clinical practice in aiming to enhance educational courses. The next focus is to provide sessions that contains important issues of essential knowledge on clinical and fundamental research which are normally scarce opportunities to learn collectively and cutting edge information that will be easier to comprehend. My goal is to provide the latest knowledge and information not only for each member but also to students, junior residents who set their sights on neurology and those who are in various different fields related to neurology.
Conversely, the fact is that issues as what neurology specialists are capable of and what sort of illnesses are dealt with by neurology have not been thoroughly understood. My hope is that this meeting will convey the latest important research results to the society, and simultaneously be instrumental broadly enlightening people of neurologists’ roles. In addition to the open medical lecture for the general public, a plan called Nagoya Neurology Week is also under consideration to effectively inform the public the activities undertaken by neurology.
As the Meeting is held in the region of Nagoya, I hope that everyone will have a wonderful time in Nagoya. Nagoya is known for as a city of history and manufacturing, as well as for its’ distinctive food culture. Beautiful scenic sights as Mikawa Bay, Hida-Takayama and Kiso road is located nearby the city, which adds more to the experience of the regional culture to the scholarship. I am looking forward to seeing you all at the Meeting.
